Knitting

Knitting is handicraft work. It is made by thread on yarn which turns into cloth. Similar to crochet, knitting consists of loops called stitches pulled through each other. Knitting differs from crochet in multiple stitches. In stead of using two knitting needles, crochet hook is used. Crochet can be handled to use a single tool. The active stitches are usually held on a needle until another loop can be passed through them with a second needle.

There are two types in knitting. One is to be done by hand and another by machine. By hand there are many styles and methods. Some produce on totally different end-product but some produce similar results. Flat knitting is done on two straight needles. It produces a length of cloth. The circular knitting is done on circular on double pointed needles. It produces a seamless tube. In the modern tailoring system, needles are under power used to finish the work as quickly as possible. To make cloth, knitting is basic craft.

In Erode, there are many garment units, mills, factories and industries where T-Shirts, blouses, braids, linens, Bermudas, bed-sheet, curtains, and pillow-covers are manufactured with the latest technology through the mode of knitting, linens and embroidery.
